Are you finding that your website is ranking on search engines, but you don’t feel like your traffic is responding like you think it should? How can that be? Well ranking on search engines is just the first part of SEO. There are a few things that can keep your traffic from boosting.

It’s possible you’re not ranking as high as you think you are. With all the personalization options that search engines are providing, it’s very possible that you aren’t seeing the rankings like everyone else is. You may see your website ranked #1, but it may actually be #45 for example.

How can you avoid this? Be sure to log off your Google account (any you may have). Use “&pws=0″ parameter to shut off (some) personalization. Check the rankings from a browser that you don’t usually use. You can also try using a third party ranking system like Web App and Rank Tracker.

You can also try changing your Google location. On the lower left side of the Google search area is a place you can set your location. If you’re ranking high with your location set, try a broader setting. For example, instead of “New York City, NY” try “United States”.

Another option can rest with the analytics. If your traffic isn’t to your liking, try segmenting it by country or city (as appropriate) to see what’s really going on. For example, in Google Analytics, once you’ve selected your desired search traffic data, click on the second dimension pulldown (it should say “None”), select “Geographic”, and you’ll get a full list of options, including city.

And finally, it’s always safe to double check your keyword research to be sure they’re correct.

What if your keywords aren’t delivering? Be sure the intent of your keywords are matching for what you want. For example, the keyword “transparent bra” can mean a clothing item or a protective car covering. Let’s say the clothing item is more popular, but you’re selling car covers. If you’re ranking high for that phrase, don’t be shocked if your traffic doesn’t increase as people aren’t looking for what you’re selling, even though you’re using popular keywords.

Also note that even though you’re ranking high, it doesn’t mean that many people are actually clicking through your site and on your links (like in the example above).

What do your search listings look like? Are they filled with too many keywords or words that may look “spammy”? It’s important to remember that while it’s important to please Google and their “bots”, in the long run it’s people who are reading the results and won’t click on something that looks fishy.

So what do you do now? Ranking high obviously isn’t a bad thing. It’s not as good if your traffic isn’t coming in, but it isn’t a total loss. Take time to figure out what went wrong and regroup your SEO strategy. You may need to change a lot of things or just a few.

A lot of times people ask us if having a Facebook page for their business is enough when it comes to having a web presence. The answer is “no”. The truth is, you should have many different kinds of sites in order to increase your ranking and gain more exposure to your site. So having one site isn’t enough whether it’s a Facebook account or regular site. Not only should your business have a website for your customers to refer to but it should also have a blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

We believe that every business has the right to remain stylish but style and design aren’t everything. Social networking has become more popular than watching TV and social networks such as Facebook are more popular than any other site on the web except Google. Did you catch that? Google is the number one most widely used website in the world then Facebook. The third most popular is YouTube. YouTube is a great way to expose your business. Did you know that having a YouTube video on your site will dramtaically increase your Google ranking? And the video doesn’t need to be your own creation. If you need a video, tell us where to put it and we’ll be more than happy to add it to your site.

One of the best things you can do for your website is optimize the image alt tags, title tags, and meta tags. Sound like jibberish? Well good thing you can leave that up to us. We not only make pretty sites but we optimize the code so that your site dominates your competition on Google.

Did you know the more backlinks your site has the higher your site will rank? We know how to find out how many backlinks you have vs. your competition and then beat them. If you have more backlinks than your competitors do you’ll be taking their online audience in no time.
